Mining officials and officials of the Ministry of Labour along with the Police are probing the death of two Brazilian miners in Chenapou in Region 8. The two men died when a mining pit collapsed on them as they were working.
The two dead men have been identified as Cleumiton Da Silva Santos and Antonio Filho. The incident took place on the 30th December, 2025.
The Police said preliminary inquiries have revealed that the two Brazilian nationals were working inside a mining pit when a quantity of sand collapsed into the pit. While other workers managed to escape, the two Brazilian miners became trapped and were later retrieved from the collapsed mine in an unconscious state.
The police statement explained that due to the remoteness of the location, the bodies are to be transported to Mahdia for a post mortem examination.
