Outgoing US Ambassador begins farewell tour

US Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch is preparing to say her goodbyes as the process has started for the appointment and accreditation of a new US Ambassador.

The US embassy in Georgetown has announced that it will be hosting a farewell event in honour of the outgoing Ambassador.

Ambassador Lynch, has been the US Government’s Head of Mission in Guyana since March 2019 and her tour of duty which was schedule to end last year was extended.

During her tenure, she played a key role in bringing several US businesses to Guyana and collaborated with the Guyana government in a number of areas including security, environment and infrastructural development and democracy. Under her watch, the US Embassy also assisted Guyana in accessing COVID-19 vaccines and other emergency medical supplies during the COVID pandemic.

She was one of the critical voices following the protracted 2020 General and Regional Elections here.

Late last year, the White House announced that career US Diplomat Nicole D. Theriot, has been nominated as the next US Ambassador to Guyana.

Her nomination hearing was recently completed.

She is coming to Guyana from Pakistan where she served in the US Embassy there.

She also served previously as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti and prior to that, she was Director for Immigration and Visa Security at the National Security Council in the Executive Office of the President.

The US Government also recently appointed a new Deputy Chief of Missions in Guyana.
