US Ambassador and Deputy to get tested for COVID-19 following Foreign Minister’s diagnosis

The US Embassy announced this morning that the US Ambassador Sarah-Ann Lynch and her Deputy will be tested for the coronavirus disease in wake of the revelations that the Foreign Minister of Guyana has tested positive.

In a brief statement, the Embassy said the Ambassador and the Deputy Chief of Missions will remain self quarantined until they are cleared by medical personnel.

Ambassador Lynch met with the Foreign Minister on Tuesday. His positive diagnosis was announced on Wednesday.

The US Ambassador has also been meeting with a number of other officials of the new government.

Since the Foreign Minister’s diagnosis, the President, Vice President and a number of Ministers have subjected themselves to COVID-19 tests. They are likely to get back the results today.

The Foreign Minister attended a number of meetings with other Ministers and was also part of the President’s delegation at the recent bilateral discussions with the President and Foreign Minister of Suriname.

The President has since ordered his entire cabinet to work remotely.
