Death toll climbs to four in East Coast crash

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that four persons died in yesterday afternoon’s smash-up between a canter truck and a car at Le Resouvenir on the East Coast Demerara. The accident occurred just before 6 pm.

The dead persons were identified as Lynden Pryce, Chris Bradshaw, Latoya Jones and Leknarine Sewpaul.

They were all passengers in the car and the three men worked together at the Transport and Harbours Department.

The car was heading towards Georgetown when the accident took place.

A police report said the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the road median before flipping into the opposite carriageway, ending up in the path of the truck.

It is suspected that the car suffered a blow-out of one of its tyres.

The driver and two occupants of the truck were injured and have all been hospitalised with various injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
