More than 100 statements were tendered into evidence as the paper committal proceedings in the deadly 2025 Gas Station Bombing commenced today in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate, Faith Mc Gusty.
The evidence tendered included statements from witnesses, police officers and investigators. A statement was also submitted from one of the accused – Jhonny Boodram.
Boodram was charged for terrorism together with Alexander Bettencourt, Kystal LaCruz, and the prime suspect, Ramirez Poedemo for the October 2025 bombing at the Mobil Gas Station in downtown Georgetown that claimed the life of a six year old girl and left several others nursing injuries.
The statements tendered into evidence today also included a statement from Ramesh Pramdeo – who faced a similar terrorism charge in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for the same crime.
However, he and another accused, Wayne Corriea, were cleared of the crime, while their co-accused, Venezuelan national Jennifer Rodrigues, was committed to stand trial in the High Court based on the evidence before that Court.
The paper committal proceedings will continue in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court tomorrow. During this process, the Chief Magistrate (ag) will review all statements, reports and documentary evidence before deciding whether there is sufficient evidence against those accused of bombing the gas station.
Ahead of today’s hearing, the prime suspect had admitted guilt, but later withdrew that plea as the charges against the other co-accused remained.
He told the Court that he was solely responsible for the deadly bombing, and that the other accused played no part.
The prime suspect is being represented by an attorney appointed by the state, while the State is being represented by Police Prosecutor, Mandel Moore.
