Persons “unfairly” dismissed by Government could appeal dismissals -Jagdeo

Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo has announced that the new PPP Civic government has instituted an appeal policy that will allow persons who believe they were unfairly dismissed by the current or former government to appeal those dismissals directly to the President or Vice President.

The new government has been accused of “witch-hunting” government workers other than political appointees. Some government workers have been told that they were being terminated although they are not known members of any political party and were not political appointees.

During his press conference on Friday, the Vice President made it clear that the policy will not cover political appointees, but he admitted that there might be other persons who would have gotten caught up in the dismissals over the past two weeks.

“The President has informed me that he wants an appeal mechanism to be available for people who may maintain that they have been removed unfairly because they might be feeling like they are political. They have an appeal to him so that he can review it.” Mr. Jagdeo.

The Vice President said his government does not want to be accused of any witch hunt and therefore it intends to provide the mechanism that would allow the appeal by those who believe they were unfairly dismissed.

“This doesn’t go for the political appointees, so they must not appeal, these are for…you know sometimes a junior person get caught up in the process of removal, they can have an appeal mechanism directly to the president but as I mention before this does not go for the political appointees.”

He maintains that the PPP Civic intends to be a functioning government, adding that professionals within the employment of the government should not worry about their jobs.
