PNCR Member and Region 4 Chairman Daniel Seeram endorses PPP for re-election

Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council for Region 4, Daniel Seeram, has decided to ditch his party, the People’s National Congress Reform, and embrace the People’s Progressive Party for the upcoming elections.

Seeram made the announcement of this endorsement of the PPP on his social media pages on Tuesday evening following a meeting with President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.

In his statement, Mr. Seeram said “after fruitful discussions and careful considerations on matters of National and Regional development, I am pleased to endorse President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo for a second term to lead the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.”

The retired Guyana Defence Force Captain shocked many of his close friends in the People’s National Congress Reform over his decision. However, some of them indicated that he had been drifting away from the party, but they did not expect him to throw his support behind the rival PPP.

Seeram joined the People’s National Congress in 2019 and was quickly shuttled into the position of Regional Chairman of Region Four after the 2020 elections. Region Four is the most populated and economically strong region in the country, as it is the home of the capital city and the seat of the national government.

In 2022, he was co-opted onto the Central Executive of the People’s National Congress by the party leader, Aubrey Norton following the party’s internal elections.

However, months later he drew the ire of Norton when he was charged for threatening behaviour over an incident outside a nightclub involving his father-in-law. Just over a year later in 2023, he found himself facing allegations of domestic violence. Those reports were made by his wife. At that stage, Norton called on him to step down as Regional Chairman, but he never did.

As Regional Chairman, he often complained about his office being bypassed by the central government on major development works in the Region. He, however, repeatedly stated that he was there in the office to serve the people of Guyana.
