Police Force to continue tint enforcement campaign; Tint policy to be announced soon

The Guyana Police Force will be continuing its tint enforcement exercises, pointing out that no directive has been issued for any discontinuation.

In a statement this morning, the Police Force denied reports that Ranks had been asked to discontinue the tint-related enforcement exercises.

“The GPF categorically refutes these claims, as no such directive has been issued at any level of command. Regional Commanders are hereby reminded that all members of the public are required to comply with the Laws of Guyana, including the extraction and regulation of motor-vehicle window tint as prescribed under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act. Ranks are expected to continue enforcing all relevant statutory provisions in accordance with established operational protocols,” the Police Force said in a statement.

The Force said reports that directives were given to discontinue the tint campaign constitute a clear act of public mischief and bear the potential to mislead right-thinking citizens, erode public confidence and distract from the lawful mandate of the Force.

The GPF is also cautioning members of the public against circulating unverified information which may compromise public order or impede legitimate law-enforcement operations and encourages citizens to rely exclusively on official communication channels for accurate information.

The Home Affairs Minister, Oneidge Walrond, in a separate Facebook post also rubbished reports of a discontinuation of the campaign against tinted vehicles.

Earlier this week, she directed Police ranks to remove tint from their private motor vehicles and to comply with the regulations. Officers were further instructed not to reinstall any tint unless a formal application for a permit is submitted and approved. She spoke briefly on the issue to reporters on Thursday.

She has since announced that a policy regarding tint will be announced in the coming days.
