Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, this morning challenged Police Inspectors to be more hands on in their approach to Policing and provide greater guidance to Ranks under their command, even as he boasted that the Force continues to record success stories.

Addressing the opening of the two-day Inspectors Conference, Commissioner Hicken said the Police Force is at the dawn of a new era where its succession and strategic plans are actively being pursued.

He said the new form of Policing and practice being employed by the Force is to keep up with the rapid changes that the country is currently undergoing.  

“The Guyana Police Force evolve with it, for you inspectors, the responsibility begins with your leadership, you are the link between policy and practice and at your level policy becomes action and standards become habit. You supervised the frontline, you maintain discipline and through you daily duties you influence public confidence in this institution,” the Commissioner stated.

Mr. Hicken, said Inspectors are standard bearers of the Guyana Police Force, and every decision taken by inspectors must reflect on the Force positively.

“Inspectors I want to say this, you are ambassadors for the Guyana Police Force, more often than ever, you are supposed to be on the road, you are operational and you are supposed to be supervising the sergeants and all the ranks under your command, please let this be changed in focus for the Guyana Police Force. And this is why you were promoted, you are responsible for a station or an outpost and anything happen at that station or outpost you are responsible,” Hicken warned.

Mr. Hicken also hailed the Force’s 2022- 2026 strategic plan, saying 75% of that plan has been implemented.

He said the past five years represents the most structural reform in the Guyana Police Force’s history, noting its technological push, its safe road initiative among others which he noted, have been bearing results.
