Police probing Christmas Day murder of Tuschen man; Reputed wife in custody

The Christmas celebrations were shattered early on Christmas morning in the East Bank Essequibo village of Tuschen with the murder of 49-year-old labourer, Gavin Linden Melville aka “Doggie”.

Melville’s 48-year-old reputed wife has been arrested for the crime.

A Police press release stated that the couple got into an argument early on Christmas morning at around 1:15am just after they returned home from attending a Christmas eve event.

The argument, according to the Police report, led to an altercation between the two, and it was during that altercation that the 49-year-old man was stabbed to the neck.

Police ranks were summoned to the scene, and on arrival, they found the motionless body of Gavin Melville. He was officially pronounced dead at the De Kinderen Hospital.

The Police said the 48-year-old reputed wife was also taken to the hospital, where she was seen by a doctor before being discharged back into the custody of the Police.

Investigations are ongoing.
