Police investigators have seized a luxury Lexus vehicle with fake license plates and they have launched an immediate investigation into the discovery.
Police ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken told media operatives on Tuesday that the police received information which suggested that the Lexus vehicle was carrying a false number plate. He said when checks were carried out, it was found that the license number – PTT 1256 – which the Lexus bore belonged to another vehicle.
Hicken identified the other vehicle as an NZE Toyota motorcar. The Commander would not say if anyone has been apprehended in connection with the discovery or whether anyone is being sought.
He maintained that an investigation is underway and promised to update the media at a later time.
Hicken said other agencies would have to become involved as the investigation picks up speed. The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is the agency through which all vehicles entering the country are processed.
The Authority is also the sole vehicle licensing agency in Guyana. When contacted by News Source, Commissioner General of the GRA Khursid Sattuar refused offer any comments. He said any information on the matter must be sought through the Public Relations Department of the GRA.
