A family outing at the Unity Beach on the East Coast of Demerara turned tragic on Sunday afternoon as a young couple disappeared under the rough waters while swimming. Their bodies are yet to be recovered.
Up to late yesterday evening, the search efforts were ongoing. The two have been identified as 21-year-old Lyodisa Walrdon, who was 8-months-pregnant, and her 29-year-old fiancé, Andri Francis. They lived together in Victoria on the East Coast of Demerara.

Family members said on Sunday afternoon, a group of them visited the Unity Beach to go swimming. The pregnant woman and her partner were in the water when it became rough and the young woman started to encounter difficulties while swimming. The fiancé rushed to her assistance, but both were later seen going under the water and never resurfacing as other family members and persons in the area raised an alarm.
One family member described the tragedy as taking place within seconds, leaving everyone confused.
The Police were contacted and search efforts were launched as scores of persons gathered at the beach. The search efforts are expected to resume this morning.
