Members of the Joint Services will enjoy one month’s salary as their bonus this year, President Irfaan Ali has announced.
The President made the announcement on Saturday during a visit to GDF Base Camp Seweyo for the start of the Annual Christmas Lunch for members of the GDF.
In his address to the members of the military, the President emphasized the nation’s gratitude for their service, sacrifice, and dedication.
“We are thankful for your service, your sacrifice and your commitment in continuous oath of defending our homeland and keeping Guyana safe. Today, we applaud you and ask you to applaud yourself,” he said, while also highlighting the importance of their role in safeguarding the country.
The bonus for the Joint Services, which totals just over $1.6 billion, will be distributed to over 12,000 service members. He said the Government will continue to recognise and reward the dedication of the Armed Forces. The members of the joint services will also benefit from the Government’s $100,000 cash grant for adult Guyanese as well as the 10% retroactive salary increase for public servants.

“And today, I want to announce that this year also, 12,000 of our service men and women will receive again the annual bonus…. So, in addition to your $100,000 grant, you will be receiving one month of annual bonus, which is $1.6 billion dollars transferred to our men and women in uniform,” President Ali said.
In addition to the bonus announcement, President Ali also revealed that Base Camp Seweyo, which is the headquarters of the Reserve Militia, will benefit from significant upgrades. The development is part of a broader series of initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and training opportunities for GDF personnel.
The President said there will be ongoing support for the Armed Forces, with particular focus on improving their welfare and enhancing their ability to protect Guyana’s sovereignty and contribute to regional stability.
