President David Granger will this morning meet with the recently appointed Chairman and all of the Commissioners of the Guyana Elections Commission.
It will be the first meeting between the President and the full Commission since Justice Claudette Singh took office as the GECOM Chairman last week.
The meeting is set to take place at the President’s office and is expected to look at issues related to GECOM’s preparedness for elections.
The President has said that he will set a date for the elections, once he is advised by the elections commission that it is ready to host the polls.
The Elections Commission is now in the process of conducting house-to-house registration as it gets set to produce a new voter’s list.
That process has since been challenged in the Courts by Attorney Christopher Ram.
The Chief Justice is set to issue her ruling on the application to the Court for her to stop the house to house registration exercise next week. The Opposition PPP has been boycotting the registration exercise.
The latest figure coming out of GECOM is that over 150,000 persons have already been registered.
