Previously convicted Guyanese drug trafficker busted in Bangladesh with 18-pounds cocaine

A Guyanese woman, who previously served jail time in Guyana for drug trafficking, was arrested with just over 18 pounds of cocaine at the Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The woman has been identified as Karen Petula Stuffle. In 2018, she was sentenced to four years in jail in Guyana after she was held with over 2 pounds of cocaine at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

Customs and Law Enforcement agents in Bangladesh said the woman arrived in Dhaka from Doha, Qatar and during a search of her luggage, agents found 22 large capsule-shaped objects hidden inside her luggage.

Investigators said based on the probe, it was confirmed that the drug trafficking accused traveled to Doha from Brazil, before moving on to Bangladesh.

They said that she posed as a tourist, declaring that she planned to spend one month in the country. Law Enforcement in Bangladesh believe that she really had plans to ferry the drugs to another country.

In the past, most of the cocaine consignments seized in Bangladesh were traced back to South America, with their destinations being Europe and North American countries.
