Probe launched into reports of unanswered 911 calls

"My information is that all of the systems are up and running, and so I am now investigating to see what caused whatever happened this morning. That is what I am looking at. I have the experts and our Police people checking to see what went wrong, if anything at all", Mr. Chapman told News Source.

Probe launched into reports of unanswered 911 calls

Commander for A’ Division, Assistant Police Commissioner Marlon Chapman has launched an investigation into reports of some 911 emergency calls going unanswered.

The probe has been triggered by yet another complaint about repeated calls to the emergency line going unanswered.

The latest complaint came from prominent Public Relations and Media Consultant Alex Graham, who complained on his Facebook page this morning that he called the number for over an hour this morning after his home was burglarised.

Asst. Commissioner Chapman said he has called in some technical experts to assist with the probe since initial checks found the system up and running with no problems.

“My information is that all of the systems are up and running, and so I am now investigating to see what caused whatever happened this morning. That is what I am looking at. I have the experts and our Police people checking to see what went wrong, if anything at all”, Mr. Chapman told News Source.

He said the probe will also be looking to see if there might have been some human error that resulted in the call to the emergency line this morning not being answered.

“There is always an adequate amount of ranks on duty in that particular area”, he said, as he sought to reassure that the unit that deals with the emergency calls is fully staffed.

The 911 emergency unit works out of the Brickdam Police station. The system had been plagued by problems for several years until 2017, when it was made fully functional.

While many persons have praised the improved system, there has also been complaints about the length of time it takes at times for the calls to be answered and in some cases, calls not being answered at all.
