The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the murder 49-year-old Sherwin Hamilton, of Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara.
The man was shot dead on Saturday morning at around 3 o’clock in front of the Boat House Sports Bar at Land of Canaan, EBD.
The security guard at the Boat House Bar told investigators that, at about 2:30 Saturday morning, while he was performing duties at the bar, Hamilton got into a heated exchange of words in the bar with another man.
The other man, who appeared to be the aggressor, was asked to leave the bar.
The guard said as persons started to leave the bar at around 3am, Hamilton was confronted by the same man he had the argument with and another man outside the bar.
Hamilton was shot to the left thigh and the two men escaped the scene on an XR motorcycle.
The 49-year-old man fell to the ground and efforts were made by a nurse on the scene to stop the bleeding as emergency services were summoned.
The man was eventually picked up by his wife, Amanda Persaud, and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigators processed the area, and a 9mm spent shell was found about twenty feet away from the western entrance of the Bar.
Police are looking for the suspect as investigations continue.
