Seven Guyanese deported from US arrive on special charter

Six Guyanese men and a Guyanese woman were deported from the US to Guyana today aboard a special charter flight that also made drop-offs in other countries. According to reports, the deportations form part of the US Government’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

The jet touched down in Guyana just before 3 o’clock this afternoon and was met on the tarmac by officials of Guyana’s Immigration Department and Police Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department.

The seven deportees were taken off the aircraft and handed over directly to local immigration and taken into custody for processing by the Criminal Investigations Department.

Local Immigration officials were seen in conversation with the US customs and border patrol agents who accompanied the deportees on the flight.

There are reports that the flight made a number of stops before arriving in Guyana and was expected to make a few more stops in other countries to put off other deportees before heading back to the US.

The identities of those deported today were not made known, and the reason for their deportation has also not been revealed.

While local Immigration and the Police would keep a record of all deportees, that information is not publicised.

The US Government has been cracking down on illegal immigrants in a number of communities across the United States. Many of them when arrested would be given the option to fight their case in Court or be removed voluntarily from the United States.
