Shots fired at GDF “indoor range” hits car in Kitty

A Kitty resident is grateful that no one was injured after he realized that shots being fired in an indoor shooting range at the Guyana Defence Force headquarters were hitting his parked car in Kitty.

According to reports, the Stanley Place, Kitty resident thought that his car was hit in a drive by shooting incident but he became more suspicious when he noticed a new bullet hole on the car and a shattered window of the vehicle.

It was then that he looked across the double roads of JB Singh and Vlissengen and noticed an unpainted building in the GDF compound with a few holes in the concrete wall.

GDF sources told News Source the resident visited the headquarters and raised the issue and it was only then that it was realized that bullets being fired in the shooting range were piercing the concrete wall.

The man was visited at his home by GDF officials who promised to replace his shattered car window and have the holes in the car sealed.

The incident has led to whispers around Camp Ayanganna between high level officers who are all embarrassed over the incident.

The indoor shooting range was constructed recently, but was not built with reinforced walls or the special type of concrete blocks that would have been needed. It was also built without sandbags and without solid blocks.

A senior officer told News Source that the entire range was built wrong and the situation could have turned out deadly had one of the bullets struck a passerby.  He said he cannot understand how the “very senior officers” who use the range, never noticed the large holes in the wall.

Reports indicate that the range has since been shut down.
