A team of eight US Congressmen are set to visit Guyana in the coming weeks as part of a familiarisation visit. The names of the Congressmen or the states they represent have not been released as yet.
But Guyana’s Minister of State, Joe Harmon, confirmed that the US Government officials will be here and the Government is preparing to welcome them.
Minister Harmon told reporters this afternoon that he believes the decision of the US Government team to visit Guyana highlights the growing relationship between the US and Guyana, especially in the context of the number of US businesses now doing business in Guyana.
He said more information on the visit will be made available soon.
Just this past week, the American Chamber of Commerce in Guyana was launched, with a view to further strengthen ties between Guyana and American businesses.
Since the discovery of oil offshore Guyana three years ago, a number of US Companies have been exploring various investment opportunities in Guyana.
The US Ambassador to Guyana has repeatedly described the Guyana’s oil discovery by the Exxon company as a “very very big deal”.
Exxon, which is an American company, is set to begin oil production in 2020.
