Up to late last evening, Homicide Detectives in Berbice were in search of a 25-year-old man who slashed his 16-year-old girlfriend to death.

The gruesome incident took place on Saturday afternoon in #2 Village, East Canje in Berbice. The dead woman has been identified as Parbattie Lakhpal. The man suspected of slashing her across the throat is 25-year-old Ryan Singh.

The two reportedly shared a small apartment in the bottom flat of the home of the girl’s mother. According to reports from the area, the couple had a disagreement on Friday and the teenager asked the man to move out of the house.

He gave in to the request but is suspected of returning to the house on Saturday, where he carried out the gruesome act.

The suspected murder weapon has already been found as the investigators try to track down the suspect.  Persons in the area reported that the two were living together for almost a year and their relationship appeared to be one littered with abuse.

The investigation is ongoing.
