Teenage robbery suspect shot during attempted robbery of pensioner

A teenager, who attempted to rob an 81-year-old man, was shot by a 25-year-old licensed firearm holder this morning just outside of the Brickdam Cathedral.

The injured teen collapsed outside a supermarket during his getaway bid and was taken to the hospital after being arrested by the Police. He remains hospitalised nursing a gunshot wound.

A report from the Police stated that the 81-year-old man and his 79-year-old brother were walking along Brickdam this morning when two young men on bicycles approached them. One of the young men was armed with a knife and attempted to snatch a bag from the 81-year-old.

After the elderly man raised an alarm, the licensed firearm holder who was in the vicinity responded and opened fire in the direction of the two suspects, hitting one of them to his buttocks while the other escaped. Emergency services were contacted and the injured youth was rushed to the hospital , where he remains under guard.

A full investigation is underway.
