The Government’s Chief Whip in the National Assembly and Presidential Advisor Gail Teixiera on Monday said she has never heard of the allegations being made by a young man against the Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman before, and that such allegations against the Speaker would “have never crossed my mind”.
In a brief interview, Ms. Teixiera said she would pray that the allegations are “not true and true that they be dealt with honorably”.
The Opposition party, Alliance For Change which was co founded by Trotman, has said that there is an effort underway by the governing People’s Progressive Party to besmirch the image of the Leaders of the AFC in wake of the party’s decision to move a no confidence motion against the Government. The AFC is convinced that the allegations against Trotman were engineered by the PPP.
Teixiera is a Central Executive Committee member of the PPP.
Asked for a reaction to claims that the PPP has a hand in the sex abuse allegations against Trotman, Ms. Teixiera said “I have never heard of it before and it would never have crossed my mind, so I don’t know anything about any plot. The AFC seems to be looking at a plot under everybody’s bed. Maybe they should look at plots under their own bed, but I know nothing of that and would have never dreamt of it and so I have never heard of it coming from any PPP member”.
She said she believes it was too premature at this stage to ask Trotman to step down in wake of the allegations against him and the probe that is underway by law enforcement.
The Speaker of the National Assembly has denied the allegations being leveled against him by the young man who is believed to now be in his early 20’s and claims that he was sexually assaulted by his father, his father friends and the Speaker of the National Assembly, when he was a young boy.
He made a report to the Police last Friday after returning to Guyana from Trinidad where he lived for several years.
