There must be a return to verifying results -PPP

With the Supreme Court set to hear the PPP’s case against the Guyana Elections Commission today, the Opposition party maintains that there must be a return to the process of verifying the results of the March 2, 2020 elections for Region 4, using the Statements of Polls.

In a late Monday night statement, The PPP said the verification is the only process that will deliver free and fair elections and ensure that the will of the Guyanese people is not subverted.

According to the PPP, the events of last week occurred in full view of Guyanese; members of the diplomatic community; and international observers from the European Union, the Commonwealth, Organization of American States, CARICOM and the Carter Center.

The party said the declarations from the Region 4 returning officer were fraudulent and it is the President who has embraced it.

In a statement last evening, the President said the Opposition created an atmosphere of intimidation and fear at the office of the Returning Officer of District Number 4 and it was that which led to the interruption of GECOM’s work.

The President has indicated that he will await the decision of the Court and the eventual declaration by the Guyana Elections Commission.
