Three Berbice families were plunged into mourning on Tuesday evening after a two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of three young men in Corentyne.
Police investigators identified the three victims as 16-year-old Porshatam Hoolasia, 19-year-old Ameer Khan and 23-year-old Priyas Mursalin.
The three young men were all in the same car. 19-year-old Ameer Khan was the driver with the other two young men as his passengers.
According to reports out of Berbice, the car was being driven at a fast rate by the teenage driver while in an attempt to overtake another vehicle along the Maida Public Road, the car ended up in the lane of an SUV that was being driven by a 44-year-old man.
The two vehicles collided head-on with the car with the car with the three young men also slamming into a utility pole.
16-year-old passenger Porshatam Hoolasia was pronounced dead at the scene while the other two young men were rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead while being taken for emergency treatment.
The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital with multiple injuries.
Family members of the three young men who died were left in shock. The father of the 16-year-old held onto his son’s body after he was declared dead. Other family members consoled each other. The Police investigation is ongoing.
