Two men accused of shooting a man dead outside a Canal #2 Polder wedding house and injuring another, during the course of a robbery, were charged and remanded to jail on Monday.
35-year-old Otto Pitman and 49-year-old Oliver Franklyn appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Vreed-En-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, where they were charged for the murder of Nateram Persaud.
The two were not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge and were remanded to jail. They are also facing attempted murder charges in relation to the shooting of Manipaul Ramberhak.
The incident took place on the 31st December during a wedding celebration.
Ramberhak was sitting outside the wedding house when the armed men appeared and relieved him of his jewellery.
As the robbers were making their escape, Ramberhak and the other man, Nateram Persaud chased after them. Gunshots were heard and Ramberhak and Persaud were seen falling to the ground.
The two injured men were rushed to the hospital, where Persaud was pronounced dead and Ramberhak was admitted in a serious condition.
The two suspects were arrested after being identified by eyewitnesses.
They will make their next Court appearance on the 7th February.
