Two persons lost their lives this morning in a collision between a small boat and a GDF Coast guard boat in the Moruca River in Region One. The two persons who died have been identified as Adrian Thomas and Helen Rebai.

Both of the persons who lost their lives were passengers in the small civilian boat. Two other persons including the baby of the woman who died, survived the accident.

In a statement, the GDF said preliminary investigations have indicated that the collision between the Coast Guard Raiders Craft 17 (RC 17) and the civilian vessel occurred at approximately 6:45 this morning. The injured persons were rushed to the Charity Hospital. None of the members of the Coast Guard vessel suffered any injuries.

The accident is being investigated by the Police. The GDF is expected to conduct its own Board of Inquiry into the tragedy.
