The Guyana Police Force has announced that there are two other persons in custody for the Saturday night robbery of and murder of a Berbice businessman. The first suspect was arrested early Sunday morning.
The businessman, 58-year-old, Fazal Shaheed of Albion Berbice, was meeting with his brothers to plan a memorial service for their father, when two armed men gained access to the house through an open door.
The men reportedly held the three brothers at gunpoint and demanded their jewellery and other valuables.
After relieving the men of their jewellery, the gunmen fired several shots at them while making their escape.
The victims were rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital where the eldest brother, Fazal, succumbed while undergoing surgery.
The two other brothers, who received gunshot injuries to their abdomens, were treated and admitted. They both live overseas.
Police investigators recovered several spent shells from the scene. The probe is ongoing.
