Two remanded to jail over murder of West Ruimveldt woman

Two men, 25-year-old Akande Ross, of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara and 29-year-old Shaquille Wilburg, of Public Road Buxton, East Coast Demerara were today charged and remanded to prison for the murder of 24-year-old Faynell Brewster of West Ruimvelt.

The woman was gunned down in her yard on Sunday night during an attempted robbery by the two men.

In Court today, the two murder accused were not required to enter a plea to the murder charge. They were both remanded to prison until the 18th November, when the matter will continue.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Atelly Gonsalves of East La Penitence was charged along with Akande Ross with the offence of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without License. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge. The 25-year-old woman was granted bail in the sum of $300,000, while the murder accused Akande Ross was refused bail on the illegal possession of ammunition charge.

The murder victim, Faynelle Brewster was a mother of one.

The Guyana Police in a statement this week said that as part of its investigations, it obtained CCTV footage which revealed that prior to the shooting, the victim’s brother was pursued by two men on a black XR motorcycle.

The Police said following intensive investigative work, the suspects were arrested.

A sister of the dead woman said the family remains in disbelief over the incident.

There have been growing incidents of armed robberies in the East and West Ruimveldt communities over the past few months, worrying law enforcement. Just over a month ago, local singer, Lolita Callendar aka Lola Doll, was shot multiple times in her car just after arriving in front of her West Ruimveldt home. She survived the attack, but her shooter remains at large.
