Van-West-Charles sees need for strategic thinking and re-engagement of supporters in PNC Reform

Questioned about what he believes might have been the missteps of outgoing Leader David Granger, Dr. Van West Charles said “you have to have a behaviour of leadership that connects that welcomes and that engages and that has been one of the issues”.

Contender for Leader of the People’s National Congress, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles said there is a need to urgently re-engage party groups across the country and re-organize the PNCR as a whole and that would be his plan if he is elected as the next Leader of the party.

Appearing on the Jumpstart Morning Show on 94.1FM this morning, Dr. Van West Charles said he is best suited for the position of Leader at this time.

“It, therefore, means under my leadership that we would have a more effective secretariat to represent people’s issues, to do strategic thinking, to care for our people and to ensure that the groups—I think that is where the action is, where the rubber hits the road is at the group level and we have had a serious disconnect over the years,” Dr. Van West-Charles admitted.

Now that the nominations are in for the various positions in the party, candidates are making the rounds across the country and are making pitches to party groups about why they should be the next leader of the PNCR.

Dr. Van West Charles said he has always been connected to the grassroots and believes the party needs to also get reconnected to that support base.

“So I come to the table with…years of experience or organization development and management, I bring that to the table so I am not panicking in terms of how I connect, I am strategically connecting with my team,” the party executive said.

He brushed aside concerns that he has entered the elections without a slate. The party leader candidate said there is no such requirement in the party’s constitution and he is not limiting himself to working only with a particular group of people.

The party’s election process has started with its leader on leave and not being nominated for any of the top positions on the executive.

The PNC Reform is expected to officially release details on all of the persons nominated for the elections in the coming days.
