A 25-year-old man from Grove on the East Bank of Demerara lost his life tragically this morning when an out of control truck rolled down into several cars on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge.
The truck was transporting cement at the time when it appeared as though the driver lost control and the brakes apparently failed as the truck started to roll back down a climb on the bridge. Some vehicles managed to pull aside, but the cement laden truck eventually slammed into a number of cars.
The young man who died, Scott Jacob Dorwart, was in one of those cars. The truck slammed into car pinning the young man down.
Emergency and Public Works services were summoned to the scene.
The dead man’s father broke down in tears as he arrived on the scene and identified his son’s body. Traffic Chief, Mahendra Singh also visited the scene as an investigation was launched.
