Minister’s son accused of raping ex girlfriend

The son of a Minister in the Guyana government is being accused of attacking and raping his ex girlfriend. The incident reportedly took place early Sunday morning at the woman’s Georgetown apartment.

The young woman was also badly beaten to her head and face and have several marks of violence and a black and blue left eye as a result of the physical assault.

The area around her left eye is also swollen. The 27-year-old woman told News Source on Sunday night that early on Sunday morning, she heard a knock at her door and when she opened it, believing it was her brother, it was instead her ex-boyfriend who was armed with a gun. She said the young man forced his way into the apartment and started pouncing on her.

The young lady said he ripped off her underwear and forced himself onto her even as she tried to fight him off. She said he punched her to the face during the incident and after the incident. He hurried out of the house as she tried calling friends on her phone.

According to the young woman, by the time she was able to make contact with one of her friends, the minister’s son had already left. She was taken to the Brickdam Police station where she said an officer told her that he could not take the report because a shift change was under way.

The young lady who was in the company of a friend, said she remained at the Brickdam police station for over an hour and eventually left as no police officer took her report. The young lady was taken to the Georgetown hospital where she was examined by a doctor. However, the doctor was unable to complete a rape kit examination because there was no female police officer present at the hospital to witness the examination.

The traumatized woman said she remained home for the rest of the day and her attacker even called her to find out whether she was okay.

She said this was not the first that she was physically assaulted by the son of the Government minister. She told News Source that their relationship ended in January when he attacked and assaulted her and she stabbed him in the process. She said just before that incident and while she was pregnant, she was badly beaten by the same man and lost their baby.

With tears in her eyes, the young woman said had she not lost the baby, this past week would have marked her delivery date. She admitted that she is very afraid of the young man because of his violent behaviour and the position his father holds.

She explained to News Source that when she was attacked in the past, she would file complaints to the police but would drop the complaints on the advice of the young man’s mother who often pleaded with her to “forgive him”.

The young lady who works at a Government office said this time she intends to ensure justice is done. She plans to return to the police on Monday with her report from the doctor. She hopes that charges will be filed against him and he is made to pay for his actions.
