High Court trial for mini-bus driver accused of raping disabled woman

A 44-year-old mini-bus driver from Plaisance, has been committed to stand a High Court trial for the rape of a disabled young woman.

The accused, Sherwin Reynolds, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning and was told that a strong enough case had been made out against him to face a Judge and Jury for the rape of the young woman.

It is alleged that on the 1st April, 2018, the accused took the 21-year-old woman who is disabled and cannot speak, to a desolate area and raped her.

The young woman had been a passenger in his mini-bus and was the last one left to be dropped off when it is alleged, the man drove her to to an unknown area and committed the act.

The victim reportedly complained to family members about what had taken place and pointed out the driver to them.  The accused was immediately arrested and charged.

The matter could find its way in the High Court before the end of this year.
