The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit is stepping up its fight against the trafficking of narcotics and continues to reap successes.

Head of CANU, James Singh, today announced the arrest of a 21-year-old Guyanese woman who was preparing to board a LIAT flight to Barbados at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle.

The woman was nabbed with over 7 pounds of cocaine strapped to her body. She was expected to board a New York bound flight from Barbados.

CANU Agents immediately arrested the woman and she is assisting with the investigations. She is expected to face drug trafficking charges by Thursday.

This latest bust came just one day after a large quantity of marijuana was found in a container that arrived in Guyana from the US via Jamaica.

Last week, three persons were arrested after they attempted to ship cocaine out of Guyana in frozen fish.
