Agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit arrested two persons and a businessman is now being sought following a 60-pound cocaine bust on Saturday in the Parika backdam.

The CANU agents have been probing the movement of the drug traffickers between Parika and the Essequibo coast and moved in on Saturday to make the bust, arresting two men on board a high-powered speed boat in the process.

The 27.8 kilograms of cocaine was found in large containers aboard the jetboat. CANU suspects that the boat had traveled to neighbouring Venezuela to uplift the cocaine shipment.

An Alberttown businessman who has been linked to the drug trade and persons in the drug underworld previously, is believed to be the mastermind of the cocaine shipment. He is still to be arrested and is also being accused fo sending threatening messages to CANU because of the bust.

The cocaine is estimated to have a street value of close to US$1 million and it is also suspected that a number of other persons in the local drug underworld may be linked to the narco shipment.

CANU has launched a full investigation and is receiving support from its drug-fighting partners outside of Guyana.
