Confident President Granger expects successful elections; Urges citizens to vote

President David Granger along with First Lady Sandra Granger were first in line at their polling station at Pearl on the East Bank of Demerara this morning to cast their ballots.

After voting, the President said the process was “smooth and efficient” and he expects that today’s elections will be smooth and successful. He also encouraged persons to go out and vote today.

“This is not just your democratic right but it is the democratic duty of all citizens to participate in this process and I would urge persons who might be a bit tardy to rethink the prospect of ensuring they get a government of their choice in Guyana. I hope people do not stay away regardless of their political persuasion”, President Granger said.

President Granger came to power in 2015 but his government faced a no-confidence motion in 2018 as he battled cancer. The President has since overcome his cancer battle and has been busy on the campaign trail leading the APNU+AFC coalition to the polls.

This morning, the President said he is confident that the coalition will be successful at the elections adding that “I am confident also that the process which has been put in place by Justice Claudette Singh will be efficient”.

The President said that he believes that Guyana will today demonstrate that it is a democratic country and the elections will be conducted fairly and credibly.

President Granger said as a party agent, he will be visiting other polling stations during the course of the day to observe the process and voting.

“And after that, I will quietly in the bosom of the coalition await the results of the elections and that’s how I will spend the rest of the day and night”, President Granger said.
