The Presidential Candidate for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Irfaan Ali voted just after 8 o’clock this morning and described the process as a seamless one for him and his wife.
Mr. Ali and his wife voted in his hometown of Leonora on the West Coast of Demerara and he said he is confident that when the polls are closed, his party will emerge victoriously.
“We are on track and we are very confident. Our supporters are coming out in their numbers and I think we are heading for victory today”, Mr. Ali told reporters.
He said he has received some reports of some voters having to wait long in lines and receiving wrong information about their polling stations, but those reports are being investigated.
“Voters would have related to us that they are getting misleading information and they are going to the wrong lines…a lot of those reports came from the East Coast Demerara”.
Ali said as Guyanese continue to vote today, he would ask citizens to offer help to those who may be in need of transportation and assistance to get to their polling place. He said at the end of the day, “we are all Guyanese and we have to live together”.

He called for the electoral process to be respected.
Ali was selected to be the PPP’s Presidential Candidate last year after the party held a voting process among its executive members.
Just after his selection as the Presidential Candidate, some supporters of the party expressed their reservations about his candidacy and pointed to the fraud charges he is facing in the Courts and the questions about the legitimacy of his qualifications. Those questions dogged him throughout the campaign season despite his insistence that the issues were politically motivated.
