President grades work of his three-year-old administration as impressive

On the third anniversary of his his presidency, President Irfaan Ali, believes that his government should be proud of the work that it has done so far across the country, describing that work as impressive.

In an interview that was released to the media, the President said the achievements of his three-year-old government range from massive infrastructural development, support for women, children and the elderly, the expansion of information technology and the development of the housing sector, as well as work done in other critical areas.

“But we were also been able to set a new paradigm for Guyana, one in which we are working beyond the size of our country, one in which we are working beyond the population of our country. We are going to position Guyana as an important global leader on three of the most challenging crises that the world face, that is food, energy and climate,” the President.

Mr. Alis said he wants his government to gain the credentials of a government that is caring, listens to people, and one that act in the interest of people.

He said the government over the past three years has been able to put people at the center of everything that it does.

“So, I would say we were able to keep our promises in the manifesto, we have brought back jobs in the sugar estate, we are revitalizing the sugar sector and Agriculture, we are putting food security at the front, we are investing in human development in the modernization and technological advancement in our country,” the President noted.

Turning to some of the challenges faced by the Government over the years, President Ali said topping the challenges is finding the human resources to get the job done, having set ambitious timelines and goals.

He said the government is confined to working with the available resources and therefore there might be some sloth in achieving some goals on time.

On the other hand, he noted that bureaucracy in government agencies have also set back his administration because of drawn of processes which occur to have simple things done.

“We work with specific emphasis that eyes results, that is what I want at the end of the day, where we achieve results. There have been many challenges, we came into office in a very complex global environment—Climate change, we have managed two floods, COVID, almost one and half years was operating in the confines of a COVID-19 environment, so to achieve what we achieve in such an environment is remarkable by any standard,” the President boasted.

The President also took a swipe at Opposition Parliamentarians, saying that the Opposition has not shown themselves to be a viable alternative.
