PPP still following Jagan’s philosophy and principles -President Ali tells memorial rally

In a campaign-styled speech, President Irfaan Ali took the stage at the Babu John memorial site for late Presidents Cheddi Jagan and Janet Jagan in Berbice today, and declared that their legacy remains alive, and the party they founded will continue to work on behalf of the people of Guyana.

The President compared the record of successive PPPC governments to the record of the former APNU+AFC government, and noted that during the last APNU+AFC government, the quality of life deminished in Guyana.

Reflecting on the life of Dr. Cheddi Jagan, the President said the PPP founding father was a humble servant of Guyana who stood for the working class. President Ali said the criticisms now leveled against the PPP that it has moved away from Jagan’s philosophy is unjustified.

“Comrade Cheddi live for the working class but he did not live to see the working class remain working class or remain in poverty, he lived to uplift them out of poverty, not for us to cry every day that we are fighting for the working class, what are fighting for the working class for?  To uplift them, to uproot them from poverty , to remove them from poverty, to give them human dignity and equal opportunity, and that is what the People’s Progressive Party Civic continues to do,” the President said.

The President said the country is on a path of development and though challenges are expected, the party will overcome those challenges.

“And make no mistake, as we navigate the challenges of the future as we reinvent ourselves, we will never stray away from the founding principles and values of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic,” the President said.

Mr. Ali, said every sector of the economy is now performing well, and majority of Guyanese are rallying behind the Government’s development agenda.

“We restored hope to the sugar workers, we restored hope for the communities across the country, we no longer say that rice is a private business and glory be to the naysayers, for once again they have found their voices that the lost five years ago,” President Ali said.

According to the President, Guyanese can continue to expect a higher quality of life under the PPP government.
