$25,000 one-off December bonus for public servants and old-age pensioners

Public Sector Workers as well as the country’s Senior Citizens will see an additional $25,000 in their December income, President Irfaan Ali announced today.

The President has promised to make another adjustment soon in the salaries of Public Sector workers.

The $25,000 one off payment, according to the President, is for cost-of-living relief measures.

A total of $5 Billion was allocated in this year’s budget for cost-of-living relief.

“This will benefit to 67,000 across the spectrum of these categories, at a cost of $1.7B. These adjustments will benefit workers including police men and women, prison officers, soldiers, nurses, doctors as it would also benefit employees of public enterprises including Guysuco, GPL and NIS,” the President stated.

It was also announced that some 72,000 0ld age pensioners will also get the one- off payment in December at a cost of $18B.

Further, the President said, differently-abled persons on the public assistance register will also receive a one-off $35,000 bonus payment, and that will benefit 19,000 persons at a cost of $660M.

In addition, $850M is being allocated for the purchase of fertilizer to distribute to farmers.

The President said the support is expected to benefit more than 250 acres of cultivation and 35,000 farmers and ensure increase food production and the containment of cost.

Meanwhile, Community Workers under the SIP programme, will see their monthly income increase to $40,000 from January next year.

The President said over $7B dollars in additional disposable income will be in the hands of Guyanese, as a result of the measures.
