The Guyana Police Force has been plunged into mourning with the death of one of its Police Officers while on duty.

Female Police Constable, Annette Abel lost her life while on duty outside the Beterverwaghting Police Station at a road block on Thursday night. She was mowed down by a jeep that sped through the traffic light, with its driver losing control.

The vehicle collided first with the Police traffic cones before slamming into the female Police Constable, pitching her body 20 feet away from the point of impact.

Another female Police Officer, Inspector Shenay Castello was also hit down by the car, before it slammed into two other vehicles.

Castello remains in a critical state at the Georgetown Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. News Source understands she sustained multiple fractures and injuries to her body.

The driver of the speeding car has been taken into custody and has been identified as Fitzroy Aulder. The Police report said he was under the influence of alcohol.

A few years ago, he was charged for causing the death of a pedestrian, but was freed by the Court after it found that it was the pedestrian who was in the wrong.

.The investigations into last night’s tragic accident are underway.
