Two held in Parika with over $20 Million worth of marijuana

Agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit carried out an operation in the Unity Hubu area in Parika this morning and discovered more than 120 pounds of marijuana during the search of a home.

A statement from CANU explained that during the operation, several large bulky bags were noticed, and upon closer examination, the agents found a number of brick like parcels in the bags.

A search of the parcels revealed the presence of marijuana.

CANU arrested 39-year-old Latchman Sankar and 36-year-old Sanya Ramrattan, who were at the residence at the time. CANU said the total number of parcels amounted to 102, with the weight of marijuana being 121.44 pounds.

According to the Drug Enforcement agency, the seized marijuana carries a street value of $20 million.

The two suspects remain in custody as the drug bust investigation continues.
