Two persons from the Region 7 community remain in Police custody following the discovery of three high powered weapons and a large quantity of ammunition during an operation in the Waikarai Backdam in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni region.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force explained that Police ranks were conducting an operation in the area on Wednesday when the guns and ammunition were discovered at a mining camp.

At the mining camp, the ranks found a 12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15 rifle and an AM-15 rifle along with 399 rounds of ammunition along with 12-gauge catridges.

The Police report said two persons are currently in custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation. The ranks have secured the confiscated firearms and ammunition, while other suspects are being sought.

The probe continues.
