President Irfaan has hailed the role of Queen’s College in the Guyanese society, saying that the institution has created some of the best individuals and is being represented at every sphere of national life.
Delivering the feature address at a special general assembly to commemorate the 180th anniversary of Queens College, President Ali on Monday urged that there be a continuation of the history of excellence the institution has produced.
“In every sphere of national life, the products of this institution was given the opportunity to demonstrate the values of this institution and as I said the best of expected of you and you have been given the best, to the extent that in every sphere of national life this institution has representation, you have products that showcased the values of this institution,” the President noted.
President Ali said while the journey might have started at QC, but it should not only be about the institution. He said there must not only be a commitment to the institution, but a plan to inspire others.

“The values and foundation that the institution instill in you cannot change depending on wind, or the roughness of the sea and as your badge of honor reflect a ship navigating the waters, look at the positioning of the sale and the direction of the plan. So in this life, like your badge, you will navigate rough waters and different weather condition, but no single sail will take you safely,” the President said.
But the President noted that while a certain standard is expected from persons who are at the institution and those who have passed through the institution, operating under different circumstances and environment is paramount in carrying through with the institution’s traditions.
“So in my humble view, staying true to the tradition of this institution and the value system of this institution is by honoring it and the only way you can honor it is by living it every day,” the President charged.
The President said Queens College, the country’s top secondary school, is known for contributing to the intellectual landscape of Guyana by producing distinguished professionals, some of whom have served in the highest offices in the land, including Heads of State.
The school is hosting a number of events all week long as it celebrates its 180th Anniversary.
