Five injured in shooting and chopping incident at Linden 5-corner

Police investigators in Linden are probing an early morning shooting incident that has left five persons nursing injuries and a search for a number of suspects.

According to a statement from the Police, a violent altercation took place just after 6 o’ clock this morning at the Five Corner junction at Mackenzie, Linden. The Police said during that altercation between two groups of persons, at least three of them drew firearms and discharged multiple shots, resulting in juries to a number of persons.

The persons who sustained injuries have been listed as 27-year-old Rondel Rodney of One Mile, Wismar in Linden, 21-year-old Tyrone Newton of Half Mile, Wismar in Linden, 25-year-old Brian Johnson of Half Mile, Wismar in Linden, Glaston Bristol of Redwood Crescent, Mackenzie and a 17-year-old boy from Wismar. The Police said Johnson sustained a stabbing to the right eye while Bristol was chopped to the head and had to be rushed to the Georgetown Hospital.

The Police said Britistol is suspected to be one of the individuals who opened gunfire. Two other men, identified as ‘Joby’ & ‘Shaquille Lambert’ called Shaq, were also suspected to be discharging firearms, but the two are still to be arrested.

The Guyana Police Force explained that gunshot residue swabs were collected from the hands of all of the injured persons. Evidence recovered from the scene includes seven 9mm spent shell casings, two 9mm live rounds, and one warhead.

Earlier this month, two of the injured men,Brian Johnson and Rondel Rodney, were arrested by the Police at Caria Caria in the Essequibo following the discovery of an unlicensed weapon and ammunition.

The probe into this morning’s incident is ongoing.
