Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, has announced that the results for this year’s CXC examinations will be released on Friday.
In a statement, the Minister expressed optimism about improved student performance, particularly in mathematics.
She noted that last year, Guyana, along with the rest of the Caribbean, recorded unsatisfactory results in Mathematics, which caused the Caribbean Examination Council to introduce a new region-wide intervention programme, which is expected to come on stream next year.
However, the Ministry of Education in Guyana has already launched a comprehensive Mathematics intervention programme, Minister Manickchand reminded.
“We implemented a new intervention where we gave to all our children scientific calculators, graph books, all the textbooks, past papers, past papers organized by topics, geometry sets, all that they needed, including monitoring in the classroom, “ she said.
The Education Minister explained that the initiative aims to strengthen teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of significantly improving results. She stressed the importance of these efforts in shaping the future of education.
Minister Manickchand also expressed confidence that the interventions will lead to positive, long-term changes in the education system.
