The Guyana Post Office Corporation has announced that it has suspended the shipment of all parcels and packages to the United States through the office with immediate effect and until further notice.
In a statement, the GPOC said its decision is in response to the suspension of the ‘de minimis” exemption, which previously allowed goods valued under $800 to enter the US duty-free.
The post office said it will continue to facilitate the shipment of letters and documents to the Unites States, explaining that its new policy followed the enactment of the US Government’s Executive Order which mandates that all international parcels, regardless of value, be subject to U.S. import duties.
That executive order takes effect from the 29th August, 2025.
The GPOC also explained that packages destined for countries that the shipments have to transit through the United States will also not be accepted for shipment.
Those countries include Australia, Grand Cayman, New Zealand, Turks and Caicos, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Guatemala, Honduras, and Paraguay.
The post office said further updates will be provided on the issue.
The US Government announced an adjustment to its tariff regime a few months ago, with many of the new tariff arrangements now taking effect.
