Post Office denies GWI’s “lost bills” charge

The Guyana Post Office Corporation is denying charges leveled against the organisation by the Guyana Water Incorporated, that it is responsible for many customers not receiving their water bills on time because of the bills being misplaced by the post office.

Post Master General Henry Dundas on Wednesday told News Source that he is very concerned about the recent statements from officials of the Guyana Water Incorporated about the service provided by the GPOC.

He said while the GWI may reserve the right to take its bill delivery job elsewhere, there is no evidence that the Post Office Corporation was ever responsible for bills for customers being misplaced or not delivered in a timely manner. He said he intends to address the issue in more detail in a later press release.

The Guyana Water Incorporated which has been heavily criticized by consumers for its own water supply service, has announced that it will no longer be utilizing the services of the post office for the delivery of its bills.

The company said it was concerned about inefficiency on the part of the GPOC.

A little known Charlestown based private delivery service has been awarded the contract for the delivery of bills for GWI. Sources at the water entity have indicated that GWI will be saving money by switching its bill delivery contract to the private company.
