Many of the country’s top performers shared stories of hard work, determination and the support they received from their families and teachers. They also spoke about the careers they hope to pursue in the future.

Devya Sukhai of Leonora Primary said she felt excited and proud when she learned that she had earned a perfect score.

She credited her parents for making the long months of studying easier and also thanked her uncles, aunts and teacher for encouraging her throughout the process. Looking ahead, she hopes to become a businesswoman.

Kayla Persaud of Windsor Forest Primary described the achievement as overwhelming and said she was overjoyed to be among the country’s top students. She thanked her parents, teachers and grandparents for always believing in her. Persaud said studying late into the night was difficult, but it was worth the effort. She plans to become a doctor, fulfilling a dream her late grandmother always had for her.

“My grandma, she passed away and she always wanted me to be a doctor so I’m gonna be a doctor,” she said.

Shivendra Brijbukhan of Success Elementary said he was so excited when he received the news that he said that he “didn’t know what to do.”

While he believed he would perform well, he never expected a perfect score. He said Queen’s College has always been his dream school. Inspired by his father, Brijbukhan hopes to become an entrepreneur and thanked his parents, siblings, relatives, friends and classmates for their support.

Also from Success Elementary, Gaurav Deonarine said he was thrilled by the opportunity to attend his dream school. He admitted that preparing for the examination was challenging because he is easily distracted, but said the guidance of his parents and teachers helped him stay focused. Although he has not made a final decision on his career, he is considering becoming a civil engineer, software engineer or architect.

Tyrese Abrahams of Regma Primary, who also placed among the country’s top performers, said the achievement felt excellent. He explained that he kept a healthy balance between studying, attending church and taking time to play. He spent much of his preparation practising past papers and revising regularly. Abrahams thanked his parents, teacher and friends for helping him succeed. He hopes to become a civil engineer, inspired by his uncle.

The students said the outstanding performances reflect months of dedication from students, teachers and families across Guyana.

For many of these young achievers, earning a place at Queen’s College is only the beginning as they now look forward to pursuing careers in business, medicine, engineering, architecture and entrepreneurship.
