Alberttown youth dies tragically in early morning smash-up involving truck

A 28-year-old man from Sixth Street, Alberttown in Georgetown lost his life tragically this morning in a smash up along the Goedverwaghting Railway Embank Road on the East Coast of Demerara.

The dead youth was identified as Emmanuel Paul aka “Manie Suru”. The accident occurred at around 1:45 am.

A Police report on the incident stated that Paul was driving north out of the Goedverwaghting Access Road when he allegedly failed to stop at the approach of the Railway Embankment road and ended up in the path of a truck.

The truck was being driven by a 40-year-old man from Corentyne, Berbice.

The report stated that the truck slammed into right side of the motorcar pushing it across the road, and resulting in the young driver of the car being pinned inside the wreckage. The Fire Service was summoned to assist in cutting the car apart to get the man out. The 28-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver suffered no injuries, but a breathalyzer test administered to him found that he had a small trace of alcohol in his system.

He was taken into custody and informed of intended prosecution. Investigators have been checking the area in search of any CCTV cameras that may have recorded footage of the deadly crash. The probe is ongoing.
